Birthdays

Once each year

Our life is measured.

For first years treasured

As gifts, celebrate our day.

Then as years tick by

Our day may arrive

Along with a sigh.

Maturity.

In the mirror no longer youth.

Disposition depends, whether we resent

The irretrievable turn

Of each annual event.

Gifts, welcome release,

From reality.

With age, wrinkles increase.

But in more crinkly eye,

So wisdom squints.

Mind behind reflects the age.

Guiding our embrace of this new stage.

For those yet with the stunning look,

Doubly blessed if in not yet crinkly eye,

Glows peace, sage like, as life flows through them,

Bringing joy to those with whom they share.

Beauty full: Looks and wise.

Child behind the eyes

The mind keeps age forever young.
